Why do people concern themselves over post counts?

I am more cauious in not posting a poo thread rather than going into a "spam" board and raising my post count. Sure, it may take longer to become a top dog. As if I care anyways. But at least I made a quality post. Why the hell does everyone care about post count and why can't they just post threads of good quality?
