What's happened to my user name, it used to be the same as my proboards name, now i've lost my avatar and it just comes up madhatter(madhatter) instead.

There was recently an update to Sayboxes, and now it shows as DisplayName (username). The thread is here. Have you tried adding your avatar back in yet?

The change was made because when we were testing the name lock feature (added last week) we noticed that it was still possible to change the name you posted under by changing display name - by including the username, it stops spammers being able to do that.
The reason your avatar won't show now is because it will be looking for the name "madhatter", rather than "madhatter (madhatter)". As a temporary fix you can add the full name like that as a user to get an avatar back again, but I will try to update the feature again to make the username addition optional.

I don't like it, it looks stupid, it looks like people can't make their mind up what name they're using and what's to stop someone logging out and using a name. Even a members name for that matter. Nothing cos I've just tried logging out and get my madhatter name and password back and avatar, I can change it to what ever name I like, even a members name. I log in and it stuffs up. Whats the point in locking a name to an account when I can change it anyway.

Name locking is an optional feature enabled through your admin panel. If you don't have it enabled, then names aren't locked. With name locking on, you can't change the name you post as.
As I said, we'll try to update the feature again this week to make the username display an optional part of the feature - you're the first person to complain about it, and therefore there was no apparent need to make any other alterations to how it works until now.

People don't use the avatar feature much then? I use it to say I'm admin as I use my posting account name to post not the admin name, which as I mentioned elsewhere causes a problem if i turn this o in the admin panel, cos it means i have to log out of admin and in to madhatter, where as before i just typed madhatter over the admin name and entered a password. Passwords are the the way forward but not if I've got to enter it each time I post as I do now.

Ii'm not really sure what you're asking - if the name locking feature is disabled then you can type in whatever name you want, just like before.

no, cos when i type in madhatter whilst logged in it comes up with brackets and no avatar, when i log out i type madhatter n it puts it without brackets and with avatar, as i imagine it would if i'm logged into admin. If i swap the avatar to the brackets name the avatar won't show on the one without. So my name is now two names depending on if im logged in or not

Today's update should fix that problem for you. You'll need to login to your admin panel and set the name setting option to "Display".
