I just installed a saybox on my board. I have it password protected so guests cannot post...That is working great!
But if I am working on the saybox and logged into the admin features....everyone and their mother can click Admin and have access to the setting up of the box... I tried it, I logged out as admin and signed in under another name and I could change the features of the board. Then when I was logged out completly...although as a guest I couldn't post... I clicked on admin and was able to change the box.
Now when I am logged out of the admin section, the board is safe...but if I am adding smilies, checking IP's or doing any maintenance on the box... it could become a free for all... How do I prevent others from getting into the admin functions while I am doing work on the box?
Thanks.

That's not quite how it works, although you're not the fisrt person to be confused by it When you close the admin panel, you aren't logged out from it instantly. The name you post on your shoutbox with doesn't affect the login name for the admin panel, and nobody else can access it whether or not you're logged in unless they know your password. If you want to check this yourself, login to your admin account on one PC, then go to a different computer and click the admin link without logging in there

Oh okay, I see now.... I could access the admin panel because I was on the same computer...... no matter what name I was using..... or not logged in at all. But when I go to another computer.... or someone across the country logs onto my board.... they will not be able to access the admin panel unless they know the password. And it doesn't matter whether I am logged in or not... Did I get it right? Thanks so much.....

That's right. The login for your admin account is stored on your PC in a cookie; whatever name you post on the shoutbox itself with doesn't affect that.
