Spelling

for some reason, I have an immense urge to cycle through the threads here and correct spelling and grammar. Of course I won't, seeing as it would be pointless and would take FAR too long.

The point of this is simple. Keyboards and instant messaging, and more importantly the Auto-Correct function in MS Word, are crippling the grammar and spelling of the population of the world. For example, I could type a sentence "hey its just me, was wonderin wat film u wanted 2 c at cinema 2nite?" and Word would produce "Hey, its just me. I was wondering what film you wanted to see at the cinema tonight?"

This makes it seem right to type like someone with no fingers, as no harm is done, when in fact it's very, VERY wrong. I have actually lost all my respect for someone I knew due to the fact that they "type lik dis". I even find that I type quicker when I spell things properly, rather than having to think "Now then, how can I possibly abbreviate this word further and make it even more difficult for someone to read".

What's worse, is people who don't use abbreviations, but just spell the word wrong because it's "kool", honestly it just makes you look silly..

I agree with you. I generally don't see problems with the occasional spelling error, as nobody is perfect, but people that absolutely can't spell on sites and don't use any punctuation drive me bonkers! I can relate to all that

I don't mind spelling mistakes, but stupid typing annoys me. What's The Point In Capitalising Every Word In A Sentence?! To be fair, I see that at PB more than here, but that really annoys me

Oh, and "kol" for "cool". What's the point?!

I agree, I hate seeing bad grammar or spelling; at least in most places. On message boards, and most other places, I try to write as well as I can, but on IM programs, I'll change to adapt to who I'm talking to.

Yep, I agree too. When I see bad grammar and spelling I feel nauseous (OK, maybe just annoyed); it's basically the reason I talk to so few people from my school.

When typing it seems a lot quicker and a lot more logical to just type them how they are! There's absolutely no point in changing the spelling... even though it's less letters in the word it takes longer to write and read it

Sometimes in text messages I use abbreviations, but only when I'm say... one character over the limit so it spreads into two messages.

Because I sometimes spend time in Yorkshire, when talking to Yorkshire-ites I do sometimes tend to use their own 'language', using words such as 'fella' and the like
