in light of recent events, i'd like to update my status from "don't care" to airbus, as boeing 737s seem to be dropping like flies at the moment :S Really? Mind telling me where? There was absolutely horrible maitenance done by Helios (the airline) on the 733 that was downed due to low pressure blah blah. It could have been prevented if they hired people that knew what an airplane was. Other than that, I see no other 737s that are "dropping like flies" PLUS those are all old planes. The next generation 737s are what airlines buy. No one buys the old planes anymore.

wow - no offense - but wow Neither have I What's so "wow" about it, my family can't afford to travel by plane. Well.. Planes cost a lot of money to lease or buy, pilots get paid a lot of money as they fly for an airline longer, plane tickets cost a lot of money.. I'd say dealing with flying costs a lot of money. So if your family doesn't have the money for it then they don't have the money for it- I know I don't have a problem with that. I think he was saying wow because today .. air travel is the new big thing. People would rather fly somewhere than drive -- who wants to spend 15 hours driving a car when you can just pay someone to do it for you in 2 hours?

Ok well lets consider from BBC news :
3rd February 2005 : "The wreckage of Kam Air Boeing 737 flight is located in high mountains near the Afghan capital Kabul."
14th August 2005 : "At least 25 passengers who died when a Cypriot Boeing 737 crashed in Greece were alive"
23rd August 2005 : "A Tans airline Boeing 737-200 crashes on an internal flight in Peru, near the city of Pucallpa, with at least 40 people reported dead."
5th September 2005 : "The Boeing 737-200, run by low-cost airline Mandala, crashed onto a busy road in the Padang Bulan residential area near the city's airport."
Well thats 4 in less than a year, and 3 in about 2 weeks. All in all thats a pretty rubbish average.

Airlines are retiring their old 737s because there's no point in having them anymore - plus because they're so old, parts begin to malfunction, it's hard to maintenance the old parts, etc.. The new 737s are leet. REALLY leet. LEET as heck.
